Labiaplasty, Labioplasty
Labiaplasty (labioplasty) involves the surgical reduction or reshaping of the labia minora (the lips at the opening of the vagina). For some women, thick or large labia may prevent them from wearing certain clothes such as tight pants or bathing suits. Many of these women also experience tenderness and irritation of the labia from friction, making everyday activities, such as exercise and sexual intercourse, uncomfortable. Labiaplasty gives women the relief and self-confidence they need to experience a healthy sexual lifestyle.
Labiaplasty can be desired due to:
-Genetics
-The natural aging process
-A change in the shape of the inner and or outer vaginal lips after childbirth
Comments often heard include:
-I want to change the shape of my labia
-My labia is enlarged and a reduction in needed
-I have changes in the shape of the inner and or outer vaginal lips after childbirth
-I have pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse, sports activities, or even by clothing
Reduction Of Labia Minora Technique
The labia minora are the inner hairless (or less hairy) set of lips. A labia minora reduction reduces the size of these inner lips, and it is one of the most prevalent types of labiaplasty.
Some women complain that elongated inner labia cause discomfort and hinder sexual enjoyment. It is a matter of personal preference and comfort. Elongated lips can develop from genetics, pregnancy and childbirth, and aging.
During reduction of the labia minora, the surgeon removes sections of the inner lips. The surgeon can use special techniques to help recreate the rugation (or the ruffled and uneven labial edges) that are present in natural labia
Labioplasty to Correct Asymmetry
In reality, all bodies have some asymmetry. In most women, one breast is slightly larger than the other. In men, one testicle is usually larger and hangs lower than the other. If you examine your palms, you find that the patterns are similar but different. Likewise, a woman's vulva can be asymmetrical, especially because there are two pairs of lips to be matched up, and some women find this distressing. Labiaplasty can give the area a more symmetrical appearance and alleviate a woman's insecurity about asymmetry. Typically, one lip is reduced to match the other

How Will I Look After Labiaplasty?
Every woman's genital area is as unique as her fingerprint, facial features, personality and other factors. Viewing before-and-after photographs can help you understand the possibilities of labiaplasty surgery, but remember that your results will be unique to you.
It is most helpful if you find examples where the before picture approximates the condition of your labia; the after picture can tell you what you might expect if you have the same procedure. However, if you don't find a before photo that approximates your condition, you might want to peruse a labiaplasty surgeon's before-and-after photos anyway to get an idea of his or her talent.
